So you want to do a colon cleanse and are looking for a bit of guidance? Well you have come to the right place.
As someone who has been practicing safe and natural colon cleanses for many years I am here to guide you.
Embarking on a journey towards better health and well-being often involves exploring various wellness practices, and one such practice that has gained attention is the colon cleanse.
As the body’s primary organ responsible for eliminating waste and toxins, the colon plays a crucial role in our overall health. In fact it is like our second brain.
Performing a colon cleanse is believed by some to help optimize its function and improve digestive processes.
In this guide, we’ll delve into the what, why, and how of performing a colon cleanse, exploring different methods and considerations to help you make an informed decision about incorporating this practice into your wellness routine.
The Importance of a Colon Cleanse
Each of us has a different toxicity threshold.
Some of us can handle more toxins than others. But over time the body especially the colon can not handle the amount coming in.
Your body eventually starts breaking down.
We are breathing in toxins from our environment, from foods, from drinks and in general from a toxic environment.
This causes major distress in the body and can lead to symptoms and eventually systemic diseases.
Common ailments we see today are
- Irritable bowel syndrome
- Digestive issues
- High blood pressure
- Colon cancer
We need to make sure our elimination channels are open so we can get rid of toxins.
We do this through
One way we can get toxins out is through exercise because we are not only sweating but breathing. heavier and this helps a lot.
If the urination system is working well you release toxins via the kidneys and bladder.
The other channel is proper elimination via the bowels with 2 to 3 well formed bowel movements each day.
Keep in mind we are speaking of well formed bowels because if one is just having liquid bowel movements or diarrhea this is not a healthy bowel movement and indicates a health concern.
So if these channels are not able to handle the influx of toxins we have unhealthy colons that are becoming lined with loads of waste.
This creates a barrier to absorbing nutrients and then does not allow you to feel good nor perform optimally.
The main issue is that those toxins are leaking back into your blood stream.
This is where the disease begins to manifest in the form of auto immune disease and irritable bowel, colon cancer as well as digestive issues.
Really disease states are simply way too many toxins coming in and not enough clearing them out.
We must begin to adhere to a more natural and healthy lifestyle where you eliminate the toxins in the first place.
Cleansing your colon on a regular basis with safe colon cleansing pills, colon cleansing foods and colon cleansing teas can help prevent disease states and open up your elimination channels.
Not only this but it will help you stay healthy and fit and absorb nutrients so you can look and feel your best.
Let’s dive into strategies to cleanse your colon naturally and safely.
Colon Cleansing Foods
The main thing you want to be focused on when looking at colon cleansing foods is hydrating, organic whole foods.
You also want to cut down your portion sizes to a quarter of what you would normally be consuming.
Most people are major over eaters. Look at the portion size at most restaurants.
This is a burden for your digestive system to handle.
If you are doing a 7 day oxygen based colon cleanse treatment the best food guide as created by Dr Edward Group is the following:
- Choose organic fruit for breakfast
My personal choice on this one is a low glycemic fruit such as berries and I love to add some home made organic coconut yogurt that is brimming with probiotics.
This ensures we help the gut crowd out the bad guys and let the evolved bacteria proliferate.
Fresh berries provide anti-oxidants like anthocyanins and ellagic acid (primarily found in red raspberries) helping combat cancer, high blood pressure and reduce LDL cholesterol levels.
- Mid Day Snack choose raw organic nuts or seeds
My personal preference is to soak and germinate your seeds.
Nuts and seeds provide valuable anti-oxidants and important vitamins like Vitamin E to help those with heart disease, high blood pressure, cancer and cardiovascular diseases.
Beyond that as we age we should always have plenty of Vitamin E to combat toxins and help our blood vessels and arteries.
- Lunch would be a Salad
- Dinner a salad with your choice of organic protein whether that is vegetarian or meat based
Salad provides the roughage to help sweep the colon walls and help the body remove toxins.
Other colon cleansing food options would be to do a low glycemic green juice fast or water fast which we discuss in our other posts through out the website.
But the key benefit of incorporating the foods above is they do help sweep the colon walls to remove the mucoid plaque and toxin build up.
If you have IBS you will want to consult with your health care practitioner to ensure you eat a diet that fits your unique situation.
Colon Cleansing Tea
One of my favorite ways to cleanse the colon is with a medicinal colon cleansing tea.
Ginger is anti-inflammatory as well as anti-nausea.
That is key during cleansing because sometimes we can experience die off symptoms.
Ginger helps to mitigate the uncomfortable side effects of pain, inflammation and an upset stomach.
Ginger is an ancient natural remedy that may help soothe ulcers and decrease tumor size.
Based on clinical trials ginger is a hero when it comes to colon cleansing protocols.
Next is lemon. Lemon is astringent and helps to move toxins out of the body.
It alkalizes the blood and keeps toxins moving out of the body.
Because lemons have vitamin c it helps keep the immune system strong while cleansing the colon.
Lemons are full of phytonutrients which protect the body from diseases.
A colon cleansing tea such as a lemon ginger snap tea is a perfect adjunct to a colon detox.
Take a purified water and boil it with chopped ginger root for 5-10 minutes on a simmer.
Use a strainer to pour into mug and squeeze in the lemon juice and stevia if desired.
If you want to take your colon cleansing tea to the next level add in aloe either fresh, liquid or aloe capsules here.
It is one of the most gut nourishing and soothing plants out there. If you want your skin to glow incorporate aloe into your regime.
You can simply add in some liquid to the tea or take a few capsules when you have your tea.
One way to incorporate the inner leaf is to get organic aloe from the health food store and peel off the green skin.
Then blend this with pure water, lemon juice and some grated ginger.
This gives a raw version of the drink.

Colon Cleansing Herbs
Colon cleansing herbs have been controversial over the years.
My personal approach is to steer clear of these herbs that have been reported as life threatening and stick with safe and effective oxygen based cleansers.
The one’s that have been reported to cause life threatening situations such as hepatitis and liver failure are those listed below.
These potentially harmful colon cleansing herbs I do not recommend are those such as:
- Cascaras Sagrada
Colon Cleansing Pills
When I want to perform a quarterly colon cleanse that is safe and effective I reach for Oxy Powder.
All that it is is ozonated magnesium.
It goes in and removes unwanted waste and fecal matter from the colon.
It does not cause any unwanted side effects and gives you a sense of lightness and vitality.
I have been using this product for over a decade and it is the best on the market for relieving gas, bloating, digestive issues and constipation.
If you want the good bacteria in your gut to shine and keep you strong and healthy you want to clear out the toxins regularly.
