The mouth and oral environment have a symbiotic relationship with the entire body. If there is an issue in the mouth, it can extend systemically throughout the body.Â
The fluids inside the teeth can nourish and remineralize the teeth from deep inside.Â
But how can we contribute to this magical working of our living teeth?Â
We can start by creating this DIY remineralizing toothpaste.
Tooth Enamel & Mineralization
As living, breathing bones, our teeth require a regenerative environment and key components to protect their enamel, seal holes, and cavities, and mineralize for strength.
Processed foods greatly contribute to the demineralization of our teeth.Â
Thankfully we are in a time where more and more of us understand we must look to:
- Pastured Foods
- Biodynamic Foods
- Regenerative Farming Practices to ensure minerals in our foods
- Whole Organic Foods
- Wild Foods
These are important tools or allies in the remineralization of our teeth.
Nutrients For Healthy Teeth
Other components we must consider are things like Vitamin D and K2 combined to make sure our calcium is going into our bones to create strength in them.
Without these components, we end up with calcium in the wrong places like in tissues or in the eyes which create cataracts for example.
One thing to understand is that Vitamin K from greens is very different than the K2 that is required to nourish your teeth and bones.
The K2 in the supplement linked here is the type you would find in pasture-raised dairy or pasture-raised meats from animals.Â
It is this type of K2 the bones require to heal up and regenerate.
One of my favorite examples to see that rich vitamin K2 color is in pasture-raised egg yolks. The deep orange color is your indicator that the egg has K2.
You can also look to Annatto as a vegetarian source of K2. It contains a plethora of vitamin k2.
Vitamin A or retinol is also offered in pasture-raised animals. It is different than the Vitamin A found in orange vegetables which is not fat soluble.Â
The Vitamin A and Vitamin E in pasture-raised foods give us the elements to create healthy bones. Vitamin E helps protect the bones from oxidation.
Foods to Avoid
Avoid fried, & processed foods that do not help build healthy bones or good bacteria in the mouth.
Synthetic fertilizers cause more phytic acid to be present in produce grown commercially.
Foods that can harm the teeth over time are phytic acid-rich foods.
The issue with phytic acid is that it inhibits mineral absorption.Â
Phytic acid-rich foods are:
- Grains
- Legumes
- Nuts and Seeds
Consider soaking and sprouting these foods to lessen the impact phytic acid will have on your teeth. Or learn how to ferment your foods.
Until you take those steps you may want to eliminate them from your diet. Choosing Organic Produce will help lessen the amount of phytic acid from synthetic fertilizers as well.
Mouth PH and DIY Mineralizing Toothpaste
One of the key components to repair your teeth is to keep the mouth PH above 5.5.
When the PH is 5.5 or lower this is when the teeth start to demineralize. It begins to dissolve the surface enamel.
Salt rinses are beneficial before and after brushing for this purpose. They help raise the PH of the mouth to about 7.
The coconut oil base we use in the DIY remineralizing toothpaste below holds a PH of 7-8.
The minerals in the formulation below help to raise the PH of the mouth as well.
It is good to let the toothpaste sit on the teeth as long as possible to soak it in.
Blood Sugar And The Health Of Your Teeth
Keeping your daily glucose levels low and stable is a key component of healthy teeth. The higher the blood sugar the more bacteria invades the mouth and leads to decay.
When the blood sugar remains elevated you have a situation where calcium is leeched from the bones alongside other vital bone-strengthening minerals.
PRO TIP
One pro tip that I recommend is wait 30 minutes after your meal but then gargle with wild oregano juice or salt water or a cistus and propolis mouthwash.
This will help remove the food coating along the digestive tract so that bacteria and parasites can’t feed off of it.
It is important to wait a full 30 minutes to not disrupt the digestive process.
Benefits of a DIY Remineralizing Toothpaste
Here are a few ways you benefit from making a DIY remineralizing tooth paste:

Whatever goes in your mouth is absorbed through out your entire body. It is important to do your research on every ingredient in a tooth paste. - Strengthen teeth: The ingredients in DIY remineralizing toothpaste, such as hydroxyapatite, and calcium carbonate can help to strengthen tooth enamel and prevent cavities.
- Improve oral health: DIY remineralizing toothpastes can help to reduce plaque and gingivitis, and improve overall oral health.
It is a way to raise the PH of the mouth and create systemic, long term health through out your body. - Customizations:Â You may have a unique health situation where you want to add certain essential oils or components to your DIY remineralizing toothpaste. This is the perfect way to do that.Â
Key Ingredients for a DIY remineralizing Toothpaste
Hydroxyapatite: Hydroxyapatite is the main mineral in tooth enamel.
It is a natural remineralizing agent that can help to strengthen teeth and prevent cavities. You can order it here.
Sodium bicarbonate: Sodium bicarbonate, also known as baking soda, is a mild abrasive that can help to remove plaque and surface stains from teeth.
It is also a natural alkaline substance, which can help to neutralize the acids in the mouth that can lead to cavities.
Back in the day often people only used sodium bicarbonate to brush with. It should be a staple in any DIY toothpaste.
Calcium carbonate: Calcium carbonate is another natural remineralizer that can help to strengthen teeth and prevent cavities.
It is also a good source of calcium, which is essential for overall bone and teeth health.
Coconut oil: Coconut oil has antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties.
It can help to reduce plaque and gingivitis, and improve overall oral health.
Coconut oil is also a good source of lauric acid, which can help to kill harmful bacteria in the mouth.
Essential oils: Essential oils, such as peppermint and clove oil, have antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties.
They can help to reduce plaque and gingivitis, and improve overall oral health. Essential oils can also add a pleasant flavor to DIY toothpaste.
Propolis: Propolis is a resinous substance that bees produce to protect their hives.
It has antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties.
Propolis can help to reduce plaque and gingivitis, and improve overall oral health.
It helps to reduce Strep Mutans in the oral cavity which is a key cause of tooth decay.
Liquid Minerals: Give your teeth a boost with liquid minerals in your DIY remineralizing toothpaste for more bone-building components.
Probiotics: Probiotics are live bacteria that are beneficial to health.
They can help to balance the oral microbiome and reduce the growth of harmful bacteria. Probiotics can also help to improve gum health and reduce the risk of cavities.
When combined, these ingredients can create a powerful remineralizing DIY toothpaste that can help to improve overall oral health.

Personal Experience DIY Remineralizing Toothpaste
This DIY remineralizing toothpaste has indeed strengthened my teeth and increased the PH of my mouth.
With it, I combine another drop of a DIY essential oil blend that is pretty potent including cloves and myrrh.
I like to add one drop to the toothbrush for an added upgrade.
Whenever I have felt discomfort in my teeth or the feeling of a cavity I remember the principles of addressing my diet choices, supplemental D3 and K2.
I also take time to slowly soft brush my teeth with mineral-enhanced toothpaste.
If it is a situation where I feel more care is required I have a mouth mold that I fill with the paste and let it sit on the teeth for at least 20 minutes before spitting it out.
This is a deep therapy for the teeth.
For the ultimate prevention tool and even for toothaches or bacterial infections I highly recommend an oral red light device like this one.
Lastly flossing plays a key in oral health and should be done twice per day.
I highly recommend a Biological Dentist.
My biological dentist is amazing and always helps me in the most natural ways to ensure my mouth gets the best deep cleaning.

Remineralizing Toothpaste Questions
To make an effective and safe mineralizing toothpaste use components such as:
- Hydroxyapatite
- Sodium Bicarbonate
- Calcium Carbonate
Take these powders and add them to coconut oil in the liquid form. This will create a paste. You can add essential oils like cinnamon for flavor and more potent ones as gum and teeth treatments to address bacterial issues.
To remineralize your teeth naturally you need to look at the big picture. First address your diet.
Diet & Supplements
Stay away from processed foods and instead choose foods rich in minerals like wild foods, and organic or biodynamic whole foods.
Consider Pasture Raised Foods to ensure fat soluble vitamins.
Avoid Phytic Acid rich foods such as grains, beans, nuts/seeds. Learn to soak and sprout or ferment these foods.
For vegans, you might consider eating Natto to help get your Vitamin D3 and K2 which helps to heal up and strengthen your bones.
Many people report healed cavities and healthy teeth using a Cod Liver or Pastured Butter supplement like this one.
Taking a Vitamin D3 K2 supplement is also helpful to ensure the minerals like calcium go into the bone not into the tissues.
Steamed collard greens, bok choy and bamboo shoots are helpful for bones.
Oral Health
Next, you want to ensure you are doing all that you can to make the oral environment a healthy place.
Start with the DIY Remineralizing Toothpaste recipe above.
Floss regularly and use a very soft toothbrush when brushing.
Consider a tooth mask as I mentioned in this post for deep demineralization.Â
Consider a red-light oral device like this one.
Â
Â
Look for toothpastes that have calcium carbonate or hydroxyapatite. These will help remineralize your teeth.
If you don't want to make your own with the recipe above try Uncle Harry's here.
If you want to remineralize your teeth fast stop all phytic acid-rich foods.
Eat whole foods rich in minerals. If you eat dairy and meat choose pasture-raised options to ensure vital minerals and d3/k2.
If you are vegan try natto and a supplement rich in Vitamin D3 and K2.
Start using a remineralizing toothpaste and consider a mold tray to soak your teeth in the mineralizing paste a few times per week for 20 minutes minimum.
Other supplements that have been shown to heal up the teeth fast is the Green Pasture supplements here.
