How Fasting Benefits the Mind & Body

If you have ever fasted you likely know have experienced fasting benefits.

Let’s dive deeper into this post to find out how the mind and body improve from abstaining from food.

And if you are reading this I am sure you are privy to fasting in one form or another.

The longest fast I ever did was a 30 day fast.

I have done water fasts, juice fasts, digital fasts, spiritual fasts and I am sure others.

I have made mistakes and I have triumphed. I have learned what I could do better to get the most out of a fast and help others do it right the first time.

The main difference with a spiritual fast is the intention you set on a deeper level.

It also gives you more conviction to see the fast through with a deeper faith invested in the experience.

If it is all just for cosmetic or anti-aging benefits you may only be feeding the ego’s desires.

If your goal is for spiritual connection than a spiritual fast might just be for you.

While those anti aging benefits are awesome and welcome, gaining spiritual power, initiations and wisdom is quite profound in my humble opinion.

You also incorporate plenty of meditation during the week of the fast as to get more in tune with the real you.

I do a spiritual fast twice per year.

I just finished my 7 day Spring Equinox spiritual fast on Green Vegetable Juices Diluted with 50% Alchemical Water (more for what that is in another post;)).

At the end of this fast I had a profound revelation that came forth by way of a dream on the last night of the fast.

An initiation of sorts.

I felt like it was the gift awaiting me at the end of the fast.

With no expectation it came and it was such a blessed gift.

I think a whole post on that is best suited for another time.

Why a Low Glycemic Fast?

When you do a low glycemic fast you gain several benefits.

One is without any sugary fruits you are healing the pancreas and blood sugar.

Many people do fasts and they juice fruits.

This raises the glucose, messes with insulin and feeds bad bacteria.

We want to stay away from that and keep the good bacteria proliferating as much as possible and heal any metabolic issues or insulin impairment.

The juice I recommend would be 80% celery or cucumber, then leafy greens like romaine or cilantro and then as a sparing condiment you can add fresh pressed ginger or some lemon or lime juice.

I like to keep it as neutral as possible. This gives your taste buds a break from getting too attached to eating for taste.

It ends up enlivening your senses and tastes buds way more once the cleanse is over. You have a fresh, new palette that will enjoy the simple clean foods you once loved and appreciated.

Your brain will become clearer. Because as you clean our your colon you simultaneously clean out the junk from your brain.

Detoxification Tools for Deeper Cleansing

I add in some detoxification tools with my fast programs for deeper cleansing of the body and to get the most fasting benefits.

For one I enjoy systemic enzyme therapy so that I can get rid of the non living tissue, that is in the body.

Of course fasting does this on its own by way of autophagy but I help it along by combining in  specific enzymes to digest non living tissue.

cleans up the blood and any cysts, tumors or growths that may be in the body.

I even added in a kidney tonic to nourish and clean out the kidneys this time around.

I like to keep taking iodine as well as a zeolite product that is super clean to dislodge the heavy metals.

With a good probiotic you can also start to let the good bacteria team up even more.

Fasting also allows for your hydrochloric acid in the stomach to build so that you have more digestive power.  This helps you stave off  nutritional deficiencies.

If you don’t have digestive power and healthy bacteria you will not be able to make nutrients in the gut or absorb them.

This time allows for your organs to get a much needed rest. Your kidneys have time to rest and your liver can catch up with the toxin load and process that which needs to exit stage left. Your happy hormones will be refreshed by the end and a new you will emerge.

You also give your gut time to heal and restore the stomach lining so that it seals up if any holes are there from GMO’s, bad lifestyle choices or toxins in general. Your body knows how to scavenge for toxins and it does this best when you give your digestive system a rest so that it can work on cleaning house.

Phases of Fasting

During a fast the first few days can be tough. You may feel hungry, tired or uncomfortable. Some people go through a healing crisis. This is why it is important to get the assistance of a professional that knows the ropes. They can assist you to get through that.

On day 3 you typically have more energy and feel more clear.

With discipline and patience for your bodies process you can really have a rejuvenated system in 7 days.

You reset your bodies set point, you increase healthy hormones, your body becomes more resilient and you have more time to contemplate your soul and spirits journey.

Instead of digesting food you can digest emotions and stuck patterns.

Fasting helps you break addictions and frees you from unhealthy and negative thoughts because it really brings about more peace in your overall field.

Fasting around Spring time adds a fresh, new and aliveness to life. Your weight becomes balanced and you feel vital.

With all the deep, rich green plants you are consuming it opens the heart chakra and brings in abundance to your life overall.

If you spiritual fast you take on a stronger sense of spiritual power walking with faith through these un chartered waters we are all facing.

Without expectation of anything profound happening during a spiritual fast you set yourself up to just surrender to a wonderful journey and process.

When you gain a few spiritual fasts under your belt you will likely have an initiation of some sort that reminds you of your true nature. It makes it all worth it.

Keep up lasting results by practicing intermittent fasting, a ketogenic enlivened plant based diet as well as plenty of prayer and meditation.

*Since the time of writing this I have changed the frequency to 3 times per year. I find that the optimal times are the transition from Summer to Autumn, Winter to Spring and some time in the Summer.
